Daniel Weissbort’s biography

Daniel Weissbort, a friend of Ted Hughes's from their student days at Cambridge, is currently writing a book on Ted Hughes and Translation for Oxford University Press. In the mid-60's, Ted and Daniel co-founded the magazine, Modern Poetry in Translation, which Daniel continues to edit. Daniel Weissbort also prepared the literal draft of Pushkin's poem, The Prophet, which is thought to be Ted Hughes's last poem in translation.

Daniel Weissbort taught for nearly 30 years at the University of Iowa, as Director of the MFA Program in Translation, returning to his native England in 1999. He is currently completing a Historical Reader in Translation Studies, to be published by Oxford University Press. Anvil Press will shortly publish his translational memoir of the late Nobel Laureate, Joseph Brodsky, From Russian with Love. Anvil also publishes Weissbort's own poetry.
