You Carry It Around

Biography Interview
There are bullet holes
ripping through a ragged sky
tears fall like rain from swollen eyes
There’s a baby wailing
a radio blares across the way
Everybody’s looking for something
better than today

You carry it around
it’s everything you need
You carry it around
in your heart the precious seed
you carry it around

We’re all headed for nowhere
our lives washed down the drain
We hide inside our loneliness
we search in vain
You won’t find love in the bookstore
not in the latest fashion drug
You won’t find love standing at a pulpit
or hiding under your rug

you carry it around
it’s everything you need
You carry it around
in your heart the precious seed
you carry it around

So put aside the fast talk
the hard edge that gets ahead
A reaching hand can be held
without a sense of dread
There’s nothing in the whole wide world
to replace a human touch
No heart has ever bled
for giving up that much

You carry it around
it’s everything you need
You carry it around
in your heart the precious seed
you carry it around
