LOOKING

by Harmony Ho

I went looking
for my dream this morning.
After I woke up she disappeared
and left no footprints for me
to follow.

I do not remember what she looked like,
only that we walked together
our arms swinging side by side
our feet matching step for step,
and we were both smiling.

I moved my pillow,
pulled back my blankets,
stood on my bed and looked all around.
I even looked under the rug
and in the closet
but she was not there.

Then I thought,
maybe she is visiting
that girl on the other side
of the world,
and maybe she will return
tonight,
and we will walk together
arms swinging,
smiling as we leave
a trail of silver
footprints behind us.
