Narrator     : Once upon a time there were three lovely fairy princesses.

Sally             : I’m Sally.

Molly            : I’m Molly.

Anabelle     : I’m Anabelle.

Narrator     : They lived in a little house by a river. They had a dog named Duchess.

Duchess     : Arf.

Narrator     : Now each of these fairy princesses had a special trick.

Sally             : I can twirl and hop! (Sally twirls and hops.)

Molly            : I can jump and kick! (Molly jumps and kicks.)

Anabelle     : I can sing.

Molly/Sally : You can’t sing!

Anabelle     : Can so!

Molly/Sally : Can not!

Anabelle       : Well, I can try.

Molly             : You can’t sing, Anabelle.

Sally               : But you can wiggle and leap.

Molly              : You can pretend to sleep.

Sally                : You can tiptoe and spin.

Molly              : You can fall on your chin!

Anabelle        : I can sing!

Duchess          : Arf!

Molly/Sally     : NO!

Anabelle : (Sung) But singing is what I love to do best

I love to sing before breakfast

And after lunch and before I rest

I love to sing !

How I love to sing !

Narrator : So Sally and Molly loved to dance, and Anabelle loved to sing.

Princesses : Right.

Duchess : Arf! Arf-arf!

Narrator : Oh yes, and Duchess had a trick too.

(Duchess performs a cartwheel, a sommersault, and a roll. Princesses all clap.)

Narrator : Very good, Duchess.

Duchess : Arf!

Narrator : One day, a boy named Billy came into town, riding on a Dragon.

(Enter Billy riding on Duke the Dragon.)

Billy : (To audience) Hi! I’m Billy!

Duke : I’m Duke the Dragon!

Billy : Duke, dragons can’t talk!

Dragon : Oops, sorry…err… roar.

Billy : You can do better than that.

Dragon : ROAR!

Billy : Come on Duke. Put your heart into it.

Dragon : ROOOOOOAAAAAAR!

Billy : That’s more like it.

Narrator : The sound of the dragon’s roar filled the princesses’ hearts with dread.

Sally : What was that?

Molly : It sounded big…

Sally : And scary…

Molly : And maybe even hairy….

Sally: With sharp teeth and big claws...

Molly : And giant furry monster paws.

Anabelle : It’s just a dragon, you guys.

Sally/Molly : A dragon? (Gasp)

Anabelle : (Sung) With fire for its breath

And a stench like death

It must be a dragon!

Dragon : Hey, I’m not stinky!

Billy : Shhh!

Sally/Molly : A dragon! AAAAAAAHHHH!

(Sally and Molly hide behind a rock.)

Sally : Come on, Anabelle!

Molly : You’ve got to hide with us!

Anabelle : (Sung) But I’m a brave warrior princess

I eat dragons for my supper

I’ve battled many foes

I’ve suffered many woes

But I remain strong

Because I sing this song!

Molly/Sally : You’re not a warrior princess!

Anabelle : Am so!

Molly/Sally : Are not!

Anabelle : I can be what I want to be. I don’t have to be like you.

Molly : Fine.

Sally : Go ahead.

Molly : But when the dragon eats you…

Sally : We’re not going to save you.

(Molly and Sally hide behind bush. Billy approaches, leading Duke on a leash.)

Anabelle : Hello.

Duke : Hello.

Billy : SHHHHH ! DUUUKE !

Duke : Oops. I mean, roar.

Anabelle : You can talk?

Duke : No… I mean, er… grrr.

Billy : Who are you?

Anabelle : Anabelle. Who are you?

Billy : Billy.

(They size each other up.)

Billy : Aren’t you scared of my dragon?

Anabelle : No. I’m not scared of anything.

Billy : Girls are supposed to be scared of dragons.

Anabelle : Well, I’m not.

Billy : How come?

Anabelle : I’m a warrior princess.

Billy : Are not.

Anabelle : Am too.

Billy : You’re a fairy princess.

Anabelle : No, I’m a warrior princess.

Billy : Yeah right. Girls can’t be warriors.

Anabelle : I’m brave and I’m fearless and I’m a warrior. So there. Ha.

Billy : Well I don’t like girls anyway.

Anabelle : So? I don’t like boys either.

Billy : Fine.

Anabelle : And what kind of pet is a dragon, anyway?

Duchess : Arf! Arf–arf!

Billy : Hey, at least mine can talk.

Anabelle : He doesn’t look very tough.

Billy : Tougher than your dog, anyway.

Anabelle : Oh yeah? Sick em, Duchess!

Duchess : Arf?

Billy : Get em, Duke.

Duke : Roar.

(Duchess cowers in fear. Duke gives Duchess a sniff.)

Anabelle : Your dragon is a wuss.

Billy : So? I found him and I’m gonna take him to the king and he’s gonna reward me and make me a knight.

(Upon hearing this, Molly and Sally pop up from where they were listening.)

Molly/Sally : Ooooooooh. A knight. (Sigh)

Anabelle : Big deal.

Molly : You’d make a very handsome knight.

Sally : And a very handsome prince.

Molly : You could marry me.

Sally : Or me.

Molly/Sally : And whisk us away to your castle across the sea! (Sigh)

Billy : No way! No princesses for me!

(Sung) Girls are icky stinky peew

I wouldn’t marry any one of you

I just want to be a brave knight on a horse

Not a prince, but a warrior, alone, of course!

Anabelle : Who’d wanna marry you anyway? It’s not like your dragon’s so scary.

Duke : Roar!

Anabelle : See? That was really sad.

Duke : Sorry.

Billy : Duke!

Anabelle : But I do like the way you sing.

Billy : Really? I mean…ummm…

Anabelle : I like to sing too.

Billy : Maybe we could sing together sometime.

Molly/Sally : Hey!

Molly : But I can twirl and hop.

Sally : And I can jump and kick.

Billi_and_Anabelle
(Exit Duke and Duchess.)

Billy : Ah, bummer.

Anabelle : Yeah, there goes your plans for fame and fortune.

Molly : So you’re not a knight after all.

Sally : And you didn’t tame a real dragon either.

Billy : I didn’t know he wasn’t a real dragon!

Anabelle : You might have guessed. Real dragons can’t talk. And they’re not big on being tamed.

Billy : How would you know?

Anabelle : (Sung) I’m a brave warrior princess

I eat dragons for my supper

I’ve battled may foes

I’ve suffered many woes

But I remain strong

Because I sing this song!

Molly : Well, let’s go, Sally. He’s not a real prince anyway.

Sally : Yeah, and he’s sure no brave knight.

Molly : Come on Anabelle, he’s just a boy.

Sally : Yeah. He’s just a boy. (Exit Sally and Molly.)

Billy : So, don’t you wanna leave with them?

Anabelle : Nah. I always knew he wasn’t a real dragon.

Billy : Wanna pretend we’re warriors slaying real dragons?

Anabelle : Sure.

Anabelle/

Billy : (Sung) We are brave warriors together

We eat dragons for our supper

We battle many foes

We suffer many woes

But we remain strong

Because we sing this song!

Billy : You’re not such a bad singer after all.

Anabelle : Thanks. Hey, next time you find a dragon, can I help you capture him?

Billy : Sure! As long as we don’t have to get married.

Anabelle : Eww! As if!

Narrator : And Billy and Anabelle became friends.
