Graduate Profile
SHEEMA
SAEED
Ph.D.
I
am a Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship holder from the Maldives.
I have just started a PhD program, exploring indigenous women's
knowledge issues from the perspective of raising critical consciousness
of who indigenous women are, the purpose of indigenous women's knowledge,
and the future expectations of them for their community and children.
I
did my undergraduate studies in Oxford Brookes University, UK and
my Masters degree at Waikato University, New Zealand, all thanks
to generous scholarships. Back home I continue to work as a school
teacher, curriculum developer and teacher educator in the field
of science education.
I
transferred to the Centre so that I could continue to learn in a
loving and caring community, which would support me when I fall
and guide me to achieve my dream of learning to help my community.
The center helps me to be who I am and to take flight to where my
dreams lie, knowing that I have a safe and supportive intellectual
environment to rely on, the freedom to choose a supervisory committee
from anywhere on campus or outside, the reliability of a listening
ear when I need to discuss and debate.
